Exercising Naturally
As a species we are becoming more and more sedentary and even more worryingly this is being passed down to the next generation (our children). Improvement and change to our lifestyle is a priority, people are feeling sick, tired and stressed more than ever. The more technical we become, the more nature we need. We need to start moving properly again.
It’s not about faddy equipment or lifting great huge weights, its about getting “outside” wind, rain snow or sunshine and moving our bodies “naturally”, to become “naturally fit” ...a body adventure! There is so much more to building a body than just its shape. We need to eat well, sleep well and be physically active on a daily basis. We also need fun and laughter!
Many have gone down the conventional exercise route and get bored, de motivated, and feel like they are getting nowhere. It becomes stressful and a chore, trying to stick to boring regimented routines!
I am not surprised by the boredom, our bodies are not made to run to a drawn out exercise plan. We are not made to do sets, reps or work to a timed movement pattern. When in the body’s natural state, do we only work our shoulders one day, to then only work our legs the next? Never is the answer, we just don’t move “naturally” like that. So why is it that fitness has become so routine, structured and worse still boring and dependent on? I believe the answer is....money, lots of it, being passed on to learn snazzy names for movements, differently named shaped weights to play with, more and more machinery to run, jump, balance on. Yet we have all this without spending a penny....It’s called our “Body and the Great Outdoors”!
We are made to move freely, moving naturally is the simplest and healthiest way to be fit, and the most fun. Our bodies are designed to run, jump, lift, twist, crawl, push, just as our children do. We are slowly losing that ability, there is no truer saying “use it or lose it”. If we continued moving as we did as a child....words such as "neutral spine and keep your knees behind your toes" would never need to be used. It’s all about getting people to use their bodies again. Get outside and feel, smell, hear nature, it’s all there for us, we need to USE these senses, not only to keep hold of them but for our wellbeing too.
